SOC 110—Introduction to Sociology

Course Description:

This course is an introductory analysis of the nature of society; the interrelationships of its component

groups and the process whereby society persists in change.

This class is designed as an introduction to the study of sociology, which is the study of human society.

In this class, students will explore the different components that make our society what it is (e.g., race,

group dynamics, sexuality). Furthermore, students will learn the history of sociology, sociological

theory, and scientific methods used in the field of sociology.

None

Course Objectives:

Students will:

1.

Define key concepts in the field of sociology.

2.

Demonstrate an understanding of sociology, including the field’s history, methods, and future

directions.

3.

Explain basic human behaviors from a sociologist’s perspective.

4.

Apply concepts learned in class to different scenarios (both in class, and within their own lives).
