Course Description: Floral Design I will acquaint students with the history of Floral Design, proper care
and handling of floral materials and proper use and care of tools and equipment. Safety techniques for
the use of tools, proper lifting techniques, standing to avoid fatigue and basic first aid will be covered.
Pre-/Co-requisites: Pre-none/ Co-Floral Design II
Course Objectives:
Students will become familiar with proper care and handling techniques of floral materials and tools
used in the industry.
Students will study the principles and elements of design and floral terminology.
Students will become familiar with the use of color in design.
Students will become familiar with everyday floral design styles and be able to make them successfully
by the end if the class.

Course Requirements: Students are expected to attend class daily. This is a hands on learning experience
and lack of attendance will hinder your learning.
Tentative Course Outline:
Unit one;
Students will become acquainted with the history of Floral Design, proper use and care of tools and
equipment and care and handling techniques along with identification of flowers and foliage’s used in
the floral industry.
Students will study the Principles and elements of design, the use of color in design and become familiar
with floral terminology.
