maintain a sketch book with a minimum of two drawings a week through out the semester.

Course Requirements:

All students are required to complete all assignments and classroom exercises to

receive full credit. Attendance is mandatory as this is a ” hands on “ cumulative class that requires that

students stay current with assignments and sketchbook. If a student has a valid reason for absence it is

the students responsibility to find out what the assignment is before the absence and to be prepared for

class after the absence. Students may miss no more than three classes whereupon every class missed

after that will result in ½ reduction in current letter grade. No exceptions. Students are expected to be

on time and prepared for critique of assignments as this form of evaluation is the equivalent of a test.

Grading will be equally divided between attendance, assignments, and sketchbook. It is necessary for

students to maintain all three areas for a passing grade.

Tentative Course Outline:

Part one

( Jan. - March ) of the course is dedicated to In class exercises and assignments; Topics include

medium characteristics, drawing techniques using water media, Preparing surfaces and supports for

water media, team artist projects, and skill development.

Part two

(March - May) of the course is dedicated to outside assignments that are specifically focused

on developing good compositional strategies and providing solutions for specific visual challenges.

Students will have opportunity to develop their own direction and style by choice of subject matter and

medium.
