Course Description:
Lecture and hands-on practice of first aid basics, CPR and AED.
This course is based on the latest First Aid, CPR, and
AED guidelines recommended by the American Heart Association. Students will receive Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED
certification from the American Heart Association after demonstrating knowledge of the above topics and proper
demonstration of skills.

Goal:
The goal of this course is to facilitate student learning about first aid, CPR, and AED use so that the student will
understand and be able to utilize the basic skills to perform first aid and/or CPR/AED when needed.
Objectives:
The student will:
1) Understand and demonstrate CPR/AED use in adults and children.
2) Understand and demonstrate CPR in infants
3) Understand and demonstrate first aid skills for a variety of emergencies.

Course Requirements:
Grading is based on a standard college curve, where students earn a grade based upon the percent of total possible
points they obtain. Lectures and skill demonstration will comprise 50% of total points and the final exam will comprise of
50% of total points.
