  EMS 222 ‐ Medical Emergencies

Course Description:

  This course prepares the Paramedic student to identify, assess, manage, and treat 

various emergencies. Topics include neurology, endocrinology, allergies and anaphylaxis, respiratory, 

gastroenterology, urology, toxicology, environmental conditions, infectious and communicable diseases, 

behavioral and psychiatric disorders, gynecological and obstetrical emergencies, and associated 

pharmacological intervention. 

Pre‐/Co‐requisites: 

 None. 

Course Objectives:

  Integrate patient assessment findings, history and knowledge of anatomy, 

physiology, pathophysiology and basic and advanced life support interventions to recognize and manage 

patients with various medical conditions.

Course Requirements:

  Students will be required to attend class and complete assignments in 

MyBradyLab and exams in EMStesting on time.  Final exams will be worth 40%, additional tests 20%, 

quizzes 20%, homework 10% and affective behavior 10%.  Students will also be required to pass skill 

sheets and scenario skills sessions per portfolio requirements (where applicable).
