Observation and aiding in both elementary and secondary
settings.
Course Objectives:
Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:
1...plan and evaluate a school Health/Physical Education class.
2...plan and evaluate a Health/Physical Education lesson for an entire class.
3...record selective observations about these learning experiences, and make reflective, analytical
comments about those events.
4...evaluate health-related fitness goal setting, activity selection, and personal health-related fitness
programs for students.
5…use different viewpoints, theories, “ways of knowing”, and methods of inquiry in teaching HPER
concepts.
6…recognize and understand that reflection is an integral part of professional growth and improvement of
instruction.
Course Requirements:
1. Aid in an assigned elementary classroom for at least 36 hours during the semester. Please notify me
if you are ill or unable to meet your commitment.
2. On the second day of your field experience, plan to make a professional introduction of yourself to the
students in your assigned classroom.
3. Complete the appropriate evaluation and observation forms and turn them in a timely manner
4. You are expected to successfully serve as an active participant and aide in the Physical Education
classroom you are a part of.
5. Keep a journal of what you do, see, feel, and learn everyday you are in the classroom. This is to be
turned in to me on the assigned campus class meeting days
6. Complete any assigned evaluations and forms presented to you and return them in a timely manner.
7. Write a final evaluation of your experience describing what you have learned about Health/Physical
Education teaching and children in the classroom. This evaluation is to be typed, no less than two
pages, and is due at the final campus class meeting day.
8. Points will be deducted from late papers at the rate of ½ of one grade each day the assignment is late.
