RNG 236 Introduction to Range Management

Course Description:
Principles of range management which includes plant identification, range
evaluation, and range improvements.
Pre-Co-requisites:
BIOL 120, BOT 212, or instructor approval
Range plant physiology and ecology, range inventory and monitoring, grazing systems,
stocking rates, grazing distribution, range wildlife management, manipulation of range
vegetation, rangeland types and management, management of public rangelands, range
ecosystem analysis and computer applications
Course Objectives:
Demonstrate an understanding and proficiency in the following:
1. Ecology of range plants and range plant communities (Goal 7).
2. Grazing and grazing management (Goal 7).
3. Wildlife management on rangelands (Goal 7)
4. Methods to manipulate range vegetation (Goal 7)
5. Range plant identification (Goal 7).
6. Societal issues influencing management of public rangelands (Goal 7).
