Because this is a self-supporting program, the fees appropriate to the class must be paid by the student. Internship Cooperative education integrates classroom education with career related work placements. This may be required of students who intend to graduate in career/technical education programs. However, participation in the program is not limited to any specific major. Students in any major can participate in the program. Course Audits An auditor is an individual who attends class but is not enrolled for credit. Auditors attend classes only as listeners. A special fee is assessed those who audit; however, persons 65 years of age or older may audit on-campus courses at no charge on a space available basis. Course Cancelations The College administration reserves the right to cancel any course that appears on a semester class schedule and deems to have insufficient enrollment. Course Drops (withdraw from some, but not all classes; remain enrolled): Any student who drops a class before 8.99% of the term has been completed shall receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees for the credit hours dropped below 12 credits. There is no refund if the student has 12 or more credits after dropping. After 8.99% of the term has been completed, no refund shall be made for a class which is dropped. However, classes of the same or fewer credits may be substituted for the dropped class at no additional tuition and fee charge. If adding classes results in an increase in credit hours or if an added class requires a special course fee the institution shall charge the student for the additional credits and any special course fee. Course Load Limitations Permission must be obtained to enroll for more than 19 semester hours. A maximum course load of 22 semester hours can be approved by the academic advisor to students who meet the following requirements: • A grade point average of at least 3.00 for full time enrollment in the preceding semester, or • A cumulative grade point average of 3.00, or • An extra course that is required for graduation in the semester immediately prior to graduation. First semester freshman who are new students may not enroll for more than 19 semester hours. The following courses are not applicable when considering course load limitations: UNIV 110; HPER 210; and UNIV 105. In addition, any special topics, individual studies, field studies, physical education activity, special problems, internship, and individual research courses. Courses which carry one credit are also exempt from course load limit policies. Course Placement Dakota College at Bottineau has adopted a policy of mandatory assessment and mandatory class placement based on English & math ACT scores. To help foster student success, it is important that students are placed in the appropriate level of mathematics and English coursework. Course Repetition A course may be repeated; however, previous course work will not be expunged from students’ records. When a course is repeated, only the last grade earned will be used in computing the cumulative grade point average, and all credits attempted, including repeated courses, will be used in determining satisfactory academic progress. Credits will not duplicate for repeated courses. Final Exam Policy and Procedure All students in good academic standing may request to take final exams prior to the times and dates listed on the registrar’s official final exam schedule. Faculty may approve or deny Final Exam Reschedule Forms (FERF) that fall within one week of the scheduled exam. Students who believe their FERF was wrongfully denied may appeal the decision with the Final Examination Exceptions Committee ( FEEC). FERFs that fall outside of this one- week period will require a recommendation by the faculty member to the FEEC . Exceptions to this policy may be granted for documented university activities or personal emergencies on a case-by-case basis.
