Website: http://www.dakotacollege.edu/library/ Student Complaints Consistent with its commitment to students first, DBC has adopted this policy to assist both students and employees in the resolution of student concerns and complaints constructively, quickly and fairly. Where minor concerns arise, students are encouraged to take a common-sense approach and raise them directly with the relevant employee, with the aim of resolving the concern at the lowest possible level and without undue formality. However, where informal discussions have not yielded a satisfactory resolution, or where the matter is more serious, DBC policy provides for a more formal process to be pursued. Complaints made under this policy will be monitored and reviewed to enable the college to continually improve processes and services in support of student learning. Student Email Policy: Dakota College at Bottineau is increasingly dependent upon email as an official form of communication. A student’s campus-assigned email address will be the only one recognized by the campus for official mailings. The liability for missing or not acting upon important information conveyed via campus email rests with the student. Academic Integrity: Webster’s Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary defines plagiarism as: “The appropriation or imitation of the language, ideas, and thoughts of another author, and representation of them as one’s original work.” All forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited, including, but not limited to, cheating, fabrication, facilitating academic dishonesty, and plagiarism. If any evidence appears of students not doing their own work, plagiarism, or outright cheating on quizzes/exams, the matter will be investigated. Academic dishonesty will result in penalties that can include canceling a student’s enrollment without a grade or receiving an F for the course or for the assignment. Furthermore, the matter will be reported to the appropriate university office and the instructor will participate in any proceedings against the guilty party. Faculty members are responsible for providing guidelines concerning cheating and plagiarism at the beginning of each course, and should use precautionary measures and security in cases where cheating is likely to occur…. Students are responsible for submitting their own work. Students who cooperate on oral or written examinations or work without authorization share the responsibility for violation of academic principles and the students are subject to disciplinary action even when one of the students is not enrolled in the course where the violation occurred.” Disabilities and Special Needs: Disability Support Services (DSS) provides a variety of academic support services for eligible students with disabilities. Eligible students with disabilities are entitled to reasonable accommodations that allow access to education and services.
