ENGL 120 English Composition II Spring 2018 Instructor: Jessica Irey Phone: 701-493-2292 Email: jessica.irey@k12.nd.us Course Description English 120 is designed for students to further their competency in college-level reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Course Objectives The following competencies reflect the contribution of College Composition I to the General Education Objectives and thus are assessed as part of the course as well as part of the assessment of learning outcomes of the General Education Curriculum. 1. Students will be able to write in different essay types or genres (such as memoir, letter, proposal, exam essay) for a variety of audiences and in a variety of contexts. Students will be aware of and will practice inventing, planning, drafting, and revising. 2. Students will read closely and analyze what is read. 3. Students will learn to find and evaluate information resources, then integrate and acknowledge sources in their writing. 4. Read at a level that allows students to participate in collegiate studies and chosen careers 5. Use information resources effectively Textbooks St. Martin's Guide to Writing , 11 th ed. Axelrod and Cooper Policies Students should prepare to be active participants in class. This includes remaining on-task, participating in class discussion, completing all assigned readings on time and remaining current on all assigned work. Late work will not be accepted for this course. If circumstances arise that would cause your work to be late, you must communicate with the instructor in advance.
