Spring 2019 Course Syllabi
Informative Speech The informative speech is designed so that you can share information about a subject matter. Understand that this is not a persuasive speech. You will not be persuading us to believe anything, but rather just provide information about a topic (person, place, thing, idea, etc.). Time – 4-6 minutes Notecards – 3 notecards (3X5) You must submit an outline to this speech via Blackboard. Demonstration Speech The demonstration speech is designed to assess your ability to share information in a chronological or sequential way. Think of it as though you are reading an instructional manual. You will show the class how to complete a process utilizing a step-by-step method. Time – 6-8 minutes Notecards – 5 notecards (3X5) You must submit an outline to this speech via Blackboard. Persuasive Speech The persuasive speech is similar to an informative speech, but rather informs the audience of a topic and then the speaker tries to utilize persuasive tactics to motivate the listener to act. That is, the listener should feel the need to do something after the speech, may it be advocate, change methods to something, start or stop a task they normally complete differently than you. Time – 8-10 minutes Notecards – 7 notecards (3X5) You must submit an outline to this speech via Blackboard.
