Course: AH 171 Medical Terminology Credit Hours: 3 Semester Hours Course Description: Study of prefixes, suffixes, and root words of medical terms. Emphasis on building a working medical vocabulary based on body systems by studying the meaning, pronunciation and spelling of medical terms. The anatomy and physiology of each body system is included in this course. Prerequisites: None Course Objectives: After completion of this course the learner will be able to: 1. Identify the meanings and uses of common medical terms as related to each body system. 2. Identify body systems, structures and functions 3. Demonstrate correct spelling of commonly used medical terms. 4. Identify medical abbreviations and their meanings. 5. Describe common diagnostic procedures related to each body system. 6. Describe common pathological conditions of each body systems.
