Dakota College at Bottineau Course Syllabus Introduction to Pharmacology – PHRM215 16-‐week Course 2 Lecture/Lab Schedule: There is no required lab for this course. Chapters need to be completed in the order they are listed in the syllabus. Assignments, discussions, and exams are due in the week they are assigned. All exams need to be taken in order and are timed. NOTE: Medication administration by non-‐nursing personnel will be according to the policies of the healthcare facility in which he/she is employed. All healthcare personnel who administer medications are responsible for knowing the law(s) that pertain to medication administration. Textbook(s): § Required o Essentials of Pharmacology for Health Professions ( 8 th edition ) by Bruce J. Colbert & Ruth Woodrow. ISBN: 978-‐1-‐337-‐39589-‐2 o Study Guide to Accompany Essentials of Pharmacology for Health Professions (8 th edition) by Bruce J. Colbert & Ruth Woodrow. ISBN: 978-‐1-‐337-‐39590-‐8 o A recent drug handbook of choice. Healthcare, including medications, is in constant change; therefore, it is important to work from a current drug book. Some people prefer to use an app for their phone or tablet. This is acceptable provided the app can be updated with current information. Course Requirements: § The student is expected to read the assigned chapters for the week as well as the lecture slides that are posted by the instructor. § Check email and the announcements daily for any new information. § It is the student’s responsibility to participate and provide feedback on discussion questions. Discussion answers are to be posted no later than Saturday night of the week assigned. § All students are expected to display critical thinking throughout the course in the assignments, exams and on the discussion board. § Students need to know the basics of how to calculate drug dosages, as the information may appear on exams. § Students are expected to behave in a professional manner. Inappropriate communication will not be tolerated.
