The Dakota College at Bottineau’s photography program is pleased to announce the 2021 Annual High School Photo Contest. There will be 25 winning entries with special prizes offered to the top three.
All 25 winning entries will receive a 16x20 inch archival giclee print of their winning photo, and an exhibition in an art show, including an artist’s reception and studio and campus tour at Dakota College. The top three entry prizes include a first-place prize of a Canon EOS 70D DSLR Camera with EF 16-35mm f2.8L II Lens and a $500 scholarship. Second and third places include a $750 and $500 scholarship respectively to Dakota College at Bottineau. Scholarships are applicable for full time students at Dakota College at Bottineau.
Dakota College at Bottineau’s (DCB) Campus Nurse, Susan Indvik has been selected by the North Dakota University System to chair the Allied Health/Medical Lab Science within the Academic Discipline Group (ADG). Indvik will act as the ADG Chairperson. ADG is responsible to facilitate internal and external conversations and vote for institutional recommendations for Allied Health and Medical Lab Sciences within the North Dakota University System.
As a student majoring in computer science at a four-year university, Daniel Wilke realized he didn’t know much about the hardware inside the computers he worked on. “I was learning about database design and software development, but I also wanted to know about how the parts fit together and how it all worked,” says Daniel. So, he transferred to the Information Technology (IT) program offered by Dakota College at Bottineau on the Minot State University (MSU) campus.
Dakota College at Bottineau nursing student Tia Blanchard has been named the first recipient of a new scholarship; Jerome Indvik Scholarship. The scholarship is named after Jerome Indvik, who was a lifelong resident of Bottineau County. Jerome was the eldest son of Lars Indvik and Mable (Backman) Indvik.
Dakota Digital Academy (DDA) was founded in the fall of 2020 to coordinate, expand and enhance educational opportunities in computing and cyber sciences in North Dakota and the upper Midwest. As an organization of the North Dakota University System (NDUS), the DDA facilitates and supports students who wish to pursue skills development and education of high value in the digital world today.
Do you believe that higher education learning can happen outside of a college classroom? With over one hundred classes and over twenty programs available at Dakota College at Bottineau, distance education is more than online learning. Distance education offers a variety of options at Dakota College at Bottineau. Students can take courses online without needing to attend the physical campus. High school students can take dual credit classes online or over Interactive Video Network (IVN) at their school. They can earn college credit and high school credit by taking just one course. This opportunity exists through the dual credit program at Dakota College.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation has awarded twenty-six $2,500 scholarships to health profession students attending North Dakota colleges, universities or technical colleges. The health profession scholarship program helps fulfill the Caring Foundation’s goal of improving the health and well-being of North Dakotans by investing in the education of tomorrow’s health care professionals. The foundation is helping address the critical health profession shortage by providing financial assistance to aspiring students across the state.
This past Friday a group of Dakota College staff assembled 172 Jack Care Packs. These packs were a result of funding donated from Thrivent Financial and matched with donations from faculty and staff at Dakota College.
Dakota College staff went into the fall term knowing they needed to be adaptable and flexible in order to progress through the academic year. In a recent communication to college staff, Dr. Jerry Migler, Campus Dean stated, “We are again at a point where we need to apply these two skills to address changing conditions related to the COVID pandemic”. More specifically, the question Dakota College addressed is whether or not to adjust the academic plan for the remaining weeks of instruction after Thanksgiving break.
LeaderJacks is a student leadership organization at Dakota College at Bottineau. This fall, three Team Leaders are coordinating a community food drive for the organization to support the Bottineau Food Pantry. Alexis Gullett (Bottineau), Masaya Archbold (Fort Leavenworth, Kansas) and Kirra Montrose (Nanaimo, BC) invite the campus and Bottineau to “Give what they Can” from November 3 – November 17, 2020. The items may be dropped off at the DCB Library located in Thatcher Hall.
