Marketplace for Kids to be Hosted on DCB Campus

Marketplace for Kids Education Day will be hosted on Dakota College at Bottineau campus on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Marketplace for Kids is an educational program that gives fourth through eighth grade students the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship. According to Bob Heitkamp, Co-Chair Marketplace for Kids Advisory Leadership Team, “Our vision is for student to receive entrepreneurship education and encouragement to build stronger communities”.

2022 Spring Play Announced

The LumberActs is excited to announce their spring performance Grace & Glorie by Tom Ziegler. A dinner and a play will be held at the Cobblestone Inn on Friday, March 11th. Grace and Glorie is an odd couple comedy about life and an unexpected friendship. Grace, played by Jess McInnes (Minnedosa MB), is a 90-year-old country woman who is set in her ways. She spent her life on an apple orchard working hard, loving the good lord, and never learning to read or write. She decides to leave the hospital and return to the orchard to die on her own terms.

New Dakota College Dining Center Opens

Dakota College at Bottineau broke ground this spring for a new campus dining facility and is excited to announce it is open as of February 23, 2022. The new dining center replaces an aging facility that was constructed in the 1960s. Dakota College’s new dining center serves as the hub for food services for the entire campus community, serving students living in the college’s three residence halls. Approximately 4,000 square feet, the new dining center is attached to the existing Knudson Student Center. This includes the seating, area, serving and kitchen area, coolers, storage, mechanical and offices.

PTK Conducts School Supply Drive

Dakota College at Bottineau’s honor society Phi Theta Kappa Chapter of Beta Rho Eta conducted a school supply drive to support a need identified by the Bottineau Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Bottineau PTO shared that often towards the middle of the school year, teachers need frequently used items in the classroom. These shortages include; crayons, expo markers, scissors and Clorox cleaning wipes.

Agriculture Management is a Rewarding Career and Technical Education Program

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. CTE programs are available in higher education allowing graduates to get into the workforce in two years or less. Dakota College offers Agriculture Management and Technology designed for individuals who want to focus on one or more growing fields: livestock production, crop production, specialty crop production and agribusiness.

Dakota College Celebrated Smokey’s Week

Dakota College at Bottineau students, faculty and staff celebrated Smokey’s Week, a storied tradition that dates back to 1961. Games, events, competitions, parades, banquets were held, just to name a few. The week was kicked off with the recognition of a Smokey’s King and Queen. Princes Chloe Burt was crowned Smokey’s Queen and Prince Nic Vercaigne was crowned Smokey’s King by Smokey Bear himself.

Dakota College at Bottineau Reports Record Spring Enrollment

Dakota College at Bottineau reached a record spring semester enrollment for a third consecutive year. Dakota College’s headcount enrollment is 1,112 students, which was an increase of 82 students, or 8%, from last spring. Full-time equivalent enrollment was also up by 8%. Spring semester enrollment has grown by over 200 students over the past two years. While full-time student enrollment increased from last spring, the college saw significant growth in part-time enrollment, especially students taking dual-credit courses and online courses.

DCB Recognizes Alumni Award Honorees

Since 1982 Dakota College at Bottineau Alumni Association has hosted an Awards Recognition banquet which honors athletes, students, supportive community members and alumni. The DCB Alumni accepts nominations for Golden Service Award, Friend of the College, and Young Alumnus annually. The Alumni Association award recipients will be acknowledged at the Awards Recognition Banquet, Thursday, February 10th at 6:00 pm in the Alumni Center at Thatcher Hall.

Smokey’s Court Announced

To keep with the storied tradition that dates back to 1961, Dakota College at Bottineau faculty and staff are excited to announce their nominations for Smokey’s Court 2022. Nominations for the Smokey’s court was held last week by faculty and staff. Students eligible for the honor must have completed 24 credits, and be a full-time degree seeking on-campus student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to be considered.

DCB Brings Back Smokey’s Week

With the new year- 2022, Dakota College at Bottineau students will revive a storied tradition that dates back to 1961, namely Smokey’s Week. Originally celebrated during the winter months, Smokey’s Week activities changed to a fall homecoming tradition when the football program was re-established at the college in 2007. With football no longer at the college, and with the recent addition of women’s hockey, students and staff felt the time was right to bring back Smokey’s week.
