Pay it Forward

During this time of uncertainty many individuals and businesses have been affected within the Bottineau area. The Dakota College Phi Theta Kappa, honor society chapter is promoting a fun way for the community to come together by “axing” folks to pay it forward!

Dakota College at Bottineau’s PTK chapter of Beta Rho Eta is beginning a community centered campaign geared towards promoting community spirit and financial support for local businesses. Over the course of a 4-week period, members of PTK plan to decorate four homes in the Bottineau area. They will place a series of axe cut outs and forestry themed décor on peoples’ lawns. In order to move these out of your yard, they are ‘axing’ for a suggested donation up to $20.00. The homeowner can then select the next house to be axed. For every dollar donated, PTK will facilitate a pay it forward in Bottineau Chamber bucks to the next home.

Dakota College at Bottineau’s current chapter of Beta Rho Eta has been active on campus and within the local community this academic year. Twenty-eight members have participated in service and leadership events to support personal and professional development. Pay it forward is just one more way for the students remaining in this area to provide community service. Phi Theta Kappa is a national honor society that recognizes the achievements of students who attend 2-year colleges. It offers a wide variety of scholarship opportunities, some transferable and some students can use while in attendance.

PTK’s overarching goal is to promote community spirit in these times, while making an effort to support local businesses with money that will be kept in the local economy.

If you would like to pay it forward, contact DCB’s Chapter advisor, Dr. Zahra M. Moss at Zahra.Moss@ndus.edu or 228-5445.
