Chamber Scholastic Recognizes Dakota College Students
This spring marks the 63rd Annual Scholastic Award Program. Hosted by the Bottineau Area Chamber of Commerce, recognition is given to area students for their academic success. There were eight Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) students recognized on Tuesday night, May 3rd at the Bottineau Public School James Holwell Auditorium. DCB students must have a GPA of 3.7 or higher and are on track to graduate in spring 2022 with an associate-level degree. In addition, the student’s extracurricular and co-curricular activities are taken into consideration. The academic achievements of some exceptionally bright and talented students were recognized by Larry Brooks, Dakota College Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.
Stacy Allard is from Willow City, ND. Stacy will be graduating from DCB with an Associate of Science degree in liberal arts and an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology. While at DCB, she was named to the Dean’s List and was the recipient of the Staff Excellence Award in 2021. Stacy plans to become an online student through UND and work towards a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Eventually, she would like to earn a master’s degree in forensic psychology and teach online classes.
Shaelyn (Shae) Gebre is from Boissevain, Manitoba. Shae will be graduating from DCB with an Associate of Applied Science degree in photography. While at DCB, Shae was a member Phi Theta Kappa, or PTK, and the Photography Club. In addition, Shae was named to the PTK All-ND Academic Team and recipient of the New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar, the highest honor PTK awards to a CTE student among all 2-year colleges in ND. After graduating from DCB, Shae plans to work as a photography assistant and eventually own her own photography business.
Morgan Haerer is from Bottineau, ND. She will be graduating from DCB with an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. While at DCB, Morgan was named to the Dean’s List and was a PTK member and vice president. She was named to the PTK All-ND Academic Team and Bronze Coca-Cola Academic Team. Morgan was also a regular on the Dean’s List, received numerous academic scholarships, and was a member of the Ladyjack basketball team. Her short-term plan is to transfer to Valley City State University and earn a bachelor’s degree in business education and a minor in mathematics. Her long-term plan is to teach math or business and coach basketball or figure skating.
Adyson (Ady) Jelleberg is from Bottineau, ND. Ady will be graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in Elementary Education. While at DCB, Ady was named to the Dean’s List each semester and received numerous academic scholarships. She was a member of PTK and was named to the PTK All-ND Academic Team and PTK Bronze Coca-Cola Academic Team. Ady was also a member of the women’s hockey team and served as the president of the Student Senate. After graduating from DCB, Ady plans to continue her education at Minot State University where she will major in education. After teaching for a few years, Ady plans to earn a master’s degree in leadership so she can move into K-12 administration.
Katelyn Muchowski is from Odessa, Saskatchewan. She will be graduating from DCB with an Associate of Arts degree in Secondary Education. While at DCB, Katelyn was named to the Dean’s List and received several academic scholarships. She served as the chapter treasurer for PTK and was a member of the Ladyjack hockey team. After graduating from DCB, Katelyn will pursue a degree in Secondary Science Education at the University of Jamestown. She plans to teach high school math and science and eventually earn a master’s degree in education.
Tyson Pringle is from Boissevain, Manitoba. Tyson will be graduating from DCB with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Small Business Management. While at DCB, Tyson was named to the Dean’s List and received several academic scholarships. He was a member of PTK and the Lumberjacks baseball and hockey teams. After graduating from DCB, Tyson plans to continue his education and eventually pursue a career in sales or retail.
Kaitlyn Scherr is from Langdon, ND. She will be graduating from DCB with an Associate of Science degree in Special Education. While at DCB, Kaitlyn was named to the Dean’s List and received numerous academic scholarships. She was a member of PTK and the Ladyjack basketball team. After graduating from DCB, Kaitlyn plans to transfer to Minot State University and major in Communication Disorders. Eventually, she plans to complete a master’s degree to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. Her career goal is to work with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder either in a school setting or through her own business.
Karlee Schmidt is from Hazen, ND. She will be graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology. While at DCB, Karlee was named to the Dean’s List and received numerous academic scholarships. She was a member of the Student Senate, PTK, and the Ladyjacks hockey team. After graduating with her AA degree, Karlee plans to continue her education through DCB and earn a second degree in Recreation Management. Her career goal includes working for a national park or managing a recreation facility.
