Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) is excited to share that Angie Bartholomay, DCB Science Professor was awarded the 2023 "Environmental Educator of the Year" Trees Award. AngieBartholomayProfile.pngIn her 45th year of teaching and 15th year at DCB, Bartholomay has been a Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Project WET facilitator for many years. As a facilitator and educator, Bartholomay has worked with ND Forest Service, ND Water Resources and ND Game and Fish, ND agencies who promote Environmental Stewardship through education for more than 30 years. She was instrumental in helping create Project Learning Tree’s Activity Guide, serving as co-author, evaluator, and a field tester in her own classroom. Bartholomay is also successful for her effort in correlating PLT and Project WET to North Dakota content learning standards. Bartholomay states, “As a facilitator for these programs, I have been blessed to work with so many amazing North Dakota teachers and students”.

The past few years, Bartholomay has spearheaded a series of summer professional development courses called the “Natural Resource Institutes”, where educators are trained in environmental education curriculums like Project Learning Tree. This involves bringing in natural resource professionals to enrich educators’ learning, covering topics like soil health, drone technology, photography, conducting forest inventories, and conservation tree seedling production. Dr. Carmen Simone, DCB Campus Dean/CEO is appreciative of Bartholomay’s passion for her work. “No one works harder for students than Angie. She connects new concepts to the world around us, bringing these ideas to life for students. She is incredibly giving of her time. Angie is truly deserving of this recognition, and we are thrilled for her”. In addition, Bartholomay has organized many education events like the DCB Water Festival, NE Regional Science Olympiad, and many other educational opportunities for students grades K-12.
