In late 2020, Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians (TMBCI) approached Dakota College at Bottineau with a proposal to work together regarding NRCS practices. Keith Knudson, Horticulture Department Chair, Sheldon Thomas, TMBCI Grant Project Manager, and Zoee St. Claire, Food Sovereignty Program Coordinator met to discuss what practices could be covered and what field days for participants were appropriate to gain an understanding.

Dakota College at Bottineau recognized students through the annual Student Recognition Awards. This recognition honors students whose academic achievement and campus involvement have been exemplary in 2021-2022. Instructors and advisors from their specific programs identified students who earned the recognition.

Dakota College at Bottineau is always extremely busy during this time of year from wrapping up the semester, to finals, to graduation. The DCB Greenhouse is also busy getting plants ready for spring. The plants will be used for landscaping around the campus, the city of Bottineau planters, community plant sales, and harvesting vegetables later in the summer and fall months.

Dakota College at Bottineau staff and constituents gathered on April 20, 2022 to celebrate Dakota College at Bottineau’s appreciation and commitment to tree protection and planting on campus. This commitment and passion are rooted deep in the Dakota College history from when it first started out as the School of Forestry in 1906. It continues through today with as Dakota College hosts an annual tree planting program to recognize individuals for their care and compassion of their natural surroundings.

The Local Foods Pride of Dakota Conference was held on March 4-5, 2022 in Bismarck, ND. This conference included two full days of educational sessions with expert speakers. The sessions were designed to help improve small businesses. Individuals learned how to reach more customers, marketing strategies, business planning tips and financial success.

Dakota College at Bottineau Student Nurse Organization (SNO) is helping others with a needs drive for foster children. With an appreciation for the community, SNO is asking for donations to fill bags for children placed in foster care. SNO is made up of 13 nursing students; nine practical nursing students and four associate degree nursing students on the Bottineau campus. The idea came from the students as they were brainstorming a way to up-cycle the totes which their clinical supplies are delivered in. The

In 2018, Dakota College at Bottineau received the Farmers Market Promotional Program Grant. The purpose of this grant was to increase the capacity of North Dakota Farmers Markets. There was a challenge, however. It was found that North Dakota’s rural volunteer-run farmers markets lack the time, resources, and training to effectively meet increased consumer demand. One of the objectives of this grant was to provide a Farmers Market Marketing Workshop to incorporate the findings of the marketing needs assessment and learnings from the project. This workshop would also provide advanced marketing strategies for farmers market managers.

Dakota College at Bottineau is proud to announce four Phi Theta Kappa members of the Beta Rho Eta chapter have been named to the Al-USA Academic Team. This recognition identifies high achieving college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.

Shaelyn “Shae” Gebre, second year photography student at Dakota College at Bottineau has been named a 2022 New Century Workforce Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship. This scholarship is the first of its kind to support students at associate degree-granting institutions on a national scale as they plan to enter the workforce upon the completion of a degree or certificate. The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
